As far back as I can remember, I've had a mad love affair with design + the creative process. Whenever I could turn the mundane into something inspired and new, I'd do it. It wasn't until I was much older that I realized that publishing family newsletters and designing wedding invitations for one's Barbie dolls was not the norm. I appreciate my family for indulging my imaginative play without batting an eye; I can easily recognize the creative thread that weaved itself in and out of my most cherished childhood experiences.
How this same girl ended up earning a degree in accounting, I'll never know! Just a tiny hiccup in my life's journey, I guess. Fast forward ten years, and this is where the story gets good!
Inspired by a stroke of serendipity and a lifelong passion for indulging my creative side, Emi Ink was born!
I launched Emi Ink in 2005 with the hopes of providing my customers with beautiful, custom wedding stationery. Starting with just invitations that incorporated handmade elements, Emi Ink quickly expanded its offerings to include coordinating ceremony and reception stationery. I realized that a cohesive stationery suite could enhance not only the wedding day decor, but serve as a valuable tool in tying in different aspects of the wedding. Throughout the years, I was delighted to see how Emi Ink's designs inspired (and were inspired by) a couple's flowers, cake, and more!
While my design style changed and matured along with the current wedding trends, I always tried to prioritize my clients' needs first. Custom stationery should reflect the couple first and foremost, and it's always been a fun challenge to walk my clients through the design process and translate their wants and needs into printed pieces that truly represent them.
Throughout the life of Emi Ink, I always dabbled in fun paper crafts whenever time allowed. And somewhere along the way, I fell in love with handmade paper...first from Thailand and Nepal, then from Japan.
This love of paper "simmered" for many years. I'd casually collect paper while traveling and add it to my ever growing stash. Oh, I remember a time when I could fit my coveted paper stash into a few mailing tubes...that was a LONG time ago!
More recently, I dove headfirst into a journey of washi exploration. It's this journey that has gifted me with some of the most amazing experiences of my life, both personally and professionally. I've just started documenting some of that journey here :)
